My notes don't show up on another device

Sign in with the same account on every device: the same email, or the same Google or Apple sign-in. Your notes sync through that account on the web at use.myzakar.app, on Android and on iPhone.

What does Magic Sort send to AI?

When a note is sorted, its text is sent to Google's Gemini models, through zakar's server, to be organized into a clean note. The same goes for a voice note's recording, a translation, and the notes Ask zaki answers from. Nothing is sent otherwise. With end-to-end encryption on, the copy zakar stores stays encrypted, but sorting still needs the words, so a note you sort is sent as plain text. You can turn off automatic sorting in Settings. The privacy policy has more.

When zaki's out of sparkle

After your unlimited first week, the free plan includes 3 AI actions a week: sorts, voice notes, questions and translations all count. They refill every Monday. When they are used up, zaki shows a small card that says he's out of sparkle and when the free AI is back, with an Upgrade to Pro button. An amber banner above your notes says the same, with Refill with Pro or Not now.

Your notes keep saving either way. Without AI they are tidied and kept as written, and you can sort any of them later with Sort with zaki.

What the label on a note means, and "Sort with zaki"

An open note carries a small label saying how its current text was organised:

  • Organised by zaki: the AI sorted this exact text.
  • Organised by you: you set its category or tags yourself.
  • Waiting for organisation: a sort is queued.
  • Kept as written: saved without AI, because it was written offline, imported, saved while the free AI was used up, or too long to sort.
  • Changed since organisation: edited after it was sorted.
  • Organisation not verified: an older note from before zakar kept this record.

zaki never re-sorts a note by himself once it is kept as written or changed; your version wins. On the web, two buttons ask him to, with Magic Sort on:

  • Sort with zaki shows only on a note zaki hasn't sorted yet: kept as written, changed since organisation, or not verified. It sits next to the label and sorts the note as it is saved.
  • Enhance Now, at the foot of the editor, shows on every note, sorted or not. It tidies what is in the editor right now. On a note zaki already sorted, it works what you added into the note's existing structure.

Each uses one AI action. If the week's free actions are used up, they open Plan & billing instead. The old Mark as organised button is gone from the web; the iPhone app drops it in its next update.

Can I add photos or files to a note?

zakar keeps every note as text, so there are no photo or file attachments. That keeps notes quick to search, sync and sort. To keep what's written on paper, a whiteboard or a screenshot, scan it and zakar turns it into words:

  • Android: tap +, choose Scan Text and point the camera at the page.
  • Web: tap the scan button beside the capture box and pick an image.

The text is read on your device and added to your note, where you can edit it before you save. The image itself is never uploaded or kept by zakar, so if you want the original, keep it in your photos. Clear print in good light reads best; messy handwriting may need a quick fix-up.

How do I get a copy of my notes?

On the web, open Settings → Data and choose Export all notes. You get every note as Markdown, HTML or JSON, and the same screen can import them again.

Reminders and notifications

You never create a reminder. Write a sentence in a note, such as Remind me to call Tammy at 3pm, and zakar turns it into one. An amber card on the note shows what and when: call Tammy, today, 3:00 PM. Natural phrases work too: "tonight at 9", "tomorrow morning", "every Wednesday and Friday at 7pm", "weekdays at 8am", "in 2 hours", "on 12 October at 10:30". Tap the day pills on the card to change which days it repeats. Ticking the task stops it, deleting the sentence removes it, and moving the note to Trash or Archive silences it everywhere until you restore it. A locked note still rings, but the alert only says a locked note has a reminder. One reminder per note, and times follow the clock where you are.

Where it rings

On the web, even with no zakar tab open, as long as the browser is running and alerts are allowed; with a tab open you also get the amber card in the app. A computer that is off or asleep can't ring. On Android and iPhone, even when the app is closed. A reminder written on one device reaches the others, usually within seconds, and always the next time the app opens.

Set up on the web

Allow notifications when the browser asks, or open Settings → Preferences → Reminder alerts → Enable. If you blocked them earlier, click the lock icon left of the address, choose Notifications → Allow, then reload. Keep the browser running; no zakar tab is needed. On iPhone and iPad, Safari alerts only work once zakar is added to the Home Screen; the iPhone app rings regardless.

Set up on Android

Allow notifications the first time you save a reminder. For alerts on the minute, also turn on Settings → Apps → zakar → Alarms & reminders, or Reminders on time in zakar's own Settings. Without it, Android may ring up to 10 minutes late.

Set up on iPhone

Allow notifications when asked; Settings → Notifications → zakar shows the current choice. If you swiped zakar away in the app switcher, a reminder written on the web waits until you open zakar once.

Turning it off

Settings → Reminders from your notes stops new sentences from becoming reminders. The reminders you already have keep working and still follow their sentence.

If one didn't ring

No amber card on the note means it isn't a reminder yet: add a time or "remind me". On the web, check that alerts are allowed for use.myzakar.app and that the browser was running. Late on Android? Turn on Alarms & reminders. iPhone missed a reminder from the web? Open zakar once and it books it.

I forgot my password

On the sign-in screen, choose Reset password on the web, or Forgot password? on Android and iPhone, and we'll email you a link to set a new one. If you signed up with Google or Apple, sign in with that button instead.

Unlocking with a passkey or fingerprint

Set up Touch ID, Windows Hello or Face ID for zakar in Settings → Security & privacy → Device passkey. If a passkey says it’s from an earlier zakar account, unlock once with your password or Google, and it works from then on. The full steps are on Passkeys & fingerprint unlock.

Managing or cancelling Zakar Pro

Cancel where you subscribed: in Google Play (Payments & subscriptions), in your Apple Account settings (Subscriptions), or on the web in Settings → Plan & billing. Your notes stay yours either way.

How do I delete my account?

From the app, the web or by email: the steps, and what is deleted or kept, are on Delete your account.
